Templates Moved to New Server

We have recently moved our workgroup templates to a new server (the old
server is being rebuilt).
Every time we try to open a document that was created from a template on the
old server, it hangs. It will eventually open, but it takes 3-4 minutes!
These documents can reside anywhere - on the network or local - but they
must be trying to connect to the old server in some way? If I take a PC
offline, a local document will open right away. Only when connected to the
network do we experience these slow open times.
We are a Win2k domain, using Group Policy to specify template locations for
all users.

Unfortunately the only way I know how to alleviate this is to "re-attach"
your document to the template. Open a document, click "Tools", "Templates
and Add-ins", click the "Attach" button and browse to where you are storing
the template. This obviously must be re-done when you move them back, as
well as done each time you open a document. Once opened and saved, all will
be fine until you move the templates again.

Maybe someone else will pipe in with another option, but this is what I do.

Thanks for the response, however...we have tried that - and it doesn't work.
They still take 3-4 minutes to open. Besides, the location is correct in
"Templates and Add-Ins". It must be pulling it from the "Workgroup
Templates Location" setting. If you open a Word document in Notepad, you
can see the path to the template on the original server! There doesn't seem
to be a way to modify this...but that is precisely what we need to do.
