Templates - visual problem

R

Rosemary

Hi,

We have created a group of templates, including company
letterhead, for everyone's use. However we are finding
that when we type in a template, the screen appears
to "blink" - that is, the letterhead appears to blink on
and off while typing is going on. Also, the cursor tends
to disappear while typing, especially when using the tab
key.

These things don't occur in regular documents, or blank
documents. They only occur in the templates we have
created. The templates are stored on our network are are
accessible via File-New. We use Windows Server 2000 and
our version of Word is also 2000.

What might be the cause of this? It is annoying to the
users and I'd like to fix it for them.

Many thanks,
Rosemary

G'day "Rosemary" <[email protected]>,

Don't use Draw objects in the header/footer region. The cursor
business has to do with a system registry setting for optimizing mouse
performance - essentially the setting makes for better CPU
availability on servers but sometimes it gets set on user machines.

Why do you say to not use draw objects in the h/f region? I do this
regularly, especially in pleadings.

Hi Steve,

Could you direct us to that particular registry setting?

Hope I don't run into that problem. It must be more than the drawing object
in the header/footer; but if taking such out of your documents stops it, it
does. The drawing objects that I use are (1) lines, (2) text boxes, and (3)
a picture. (I realize that the picture may not be a drawing object, but it
prints / displays according to the commands on printing/displaying drawing
objects.)

G'day "Rosemary" <[email protected]>,

No unfort I bumped into with one of the shareware regsitry hack tools
so it was just some interface setting there :) But after I set it, I
got the 'effect' you described for the first time.

G'day "Charles Kenyon" <[email protected]>,

I received the advice from a MS employee and indeed, just removing the
draw objects fixed the problem entirely. Mind you, SP after SP one
wonders what old problems have been fixed now :)
