How do I remove a template from my documents? Every
document I open now has lines or boxes.

The lines or boxes do not print out but appear on all
documents - even old documents.

One of my documents has 2 columns. When I choose "normal"
view, the lines disappear but everything is in one column
only. When I choose 2 colums, everything returns to
normal but the lines reappear.

I would appreciate any help you can give me.

These don't print and don't appear in normal view. This means that they are
screen indicators intended to help you. "Lines or boxes" is a bit vague as
to what you are seeing. You may want to check your settings for:

Table gridlines?

Tools => Options => View => Show => Picture Placeholders?

Tools => Options => View => Formatting Marks => All?

Remember that you can use Print Preview to see what your document will look
like when printed.
