Templates

Hi
I would appreciate it if someone out there could help.
Sometime ago templates were created for our letterheads by an outside consultant. One document being the data document which contains all the letterhead info for our various branch offices. The other has the main body of the letter typed into it and it is then merged with the data document.

1. I need to make sure that once the document has been merged that it does not default to the template directory for saving (the data document is hidden)
2. Would it be possible to put this template on a toolbar for easier access.

If you are properly using templates, the resulting documents will not
default to saving in your templates directory unless you have designated
your templates directory to also be your documents directory.

Properly using templates means File => New instead of File => Open. If the
name of the document is the name of your template, you are opening the
template instead of creating a new document based on your template.

Much easier than putting a template on a toolbar is to put a Windows
shortcut to the template in your start menu.

That seems like a strange way for the consultant to have gone about setting
up the templates.

I would store all of the information about your branch offices in a document
and have a userform in a template, containing a combobox in which that
information is loaded by the UserForm Initialize() event. The user could
then select the appropriate branch from that combobox and then select/enter
various other pieces of information into contols on the userform and finally
click on a command button that would insert all of the required information
into the new document that is created from the template.

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps
