I am very much a OneNote novice, just learning it from the manual.

I understand you can't import a template from Word or Excel, but can a
template be set up in OneNote so that engineers can complete the form as
they do the survey? Ideally, we'd then like them to be able to e-mail or
fax the completed quote direct to the client?

Or if not, can the info be e-mailed back to the office and EASILY inserted
into a Word template there for onward dispatch?

Or is there another Microsoft application that would be more appropriate for
this kind of use?

Search for "Stationery" in the help and in the manual. If you create a
custom stationery, your engineers can fill it out, and then use Window's
built-in fax driver or maybe a print-to-PDF print driver to create
sendable output. The options in OneNote to send data via Outlook will do
so by attaching a copy of the current *.ONE file and the receiving
customers might not have OneNote installed to read the file.

You may also want to look into Microsoft Office InfoPath - it seems it
might be a better fit for what you want to do.

Many thanks for this, Erik. I'll give it a go and see how I get on. Will
also look into InfoPath to see if that might be easier for site based people,
some of whom will have limited IT skills.

I can certainly see lots of applications for OneNote in my own job as a PA
so I'll have to speak nicely to the boss!
