Templates

I need to keep recurring records fo 100s of clients. To gather data I use
3-page questionnaires. I've figured out how to make stationery out of one
page questionnaires but not for those which are multiple pages. One note
insists on working on separate pages while I need greater flexibility.

Is there a way to create a single template that is as many pages I need it
to be?

Elly,

We use a number of multi-page templates/forms as inputs for OneNote.

The original template is created using multi-page "tiffs", similar to
scanning multi-page docs. Using the SimpleImporter API, it is very easy to
create the OneNote pages where you could then collect your client data. The
only tricky part is handling the multiple tiffs, but there are plenty of
resources available for that.

Hope this helps,

Fritz

Wouldn't InfoPath be a better solution for Elly's requirement? If not,
why not? I've been thinking about getting InfoPath myself and am still
collecting information about it.

Fritz,

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I'm such a novice that I have
more questions. I've been creating my forms in One Note. Sounds like this may
not be the best choice. How can I create a tiff? Also, what is the Simple
Importer API?Thanks again...

Elly,

Well, that depends on what your requirements are. If you want to take
advantage of the document management features and capabilities that OneNote
provides, it may be a good choice. As you know, you can easily share the
notes with other OneNote users, email them, print them or post to a web
page. If you want to "slice n dice" the data other options may be better.

How can I create a tiff?

Microsoft Office Document Image Writer supports "tif", "tiff" and "mdi"
Also, what is the Simple
Importer API?

API = Application Programming Interface - It is a tool that lets you bring
"the world" to OneNote. You import, text, html, xml etc into OneNote. You
could use the free Microsoft Visual C# Express product ( a hobbyist/starter
tool). The barriers to this approach are coming down. (A link to the
Importer API was recently posted in this newsgroup)

Hope this helps,

Fritz

Thanks again...

Elly,

Here is the way to save your notebook template.
1. Go to the drop down menu for file and select "save as"
2. In the save window select these options:
a. Current Notebook
b. Save as type: OneNote Single File Package (*.onepkg)
c. Save to: C:\Users\_________\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft/Templates. (Put
your user name in the space.)
3. Save

To use the template, go to the drop down menu for file, hover on new and
select "notebook". Your workbook template should now appear in the list.

Good luck and best wishes!
