Temporary document

I have a ~stuff.doc on my hard drive with a last modified
date of 10/1/03. I have not opened that document for at
least 6 months. Is there anything I can find out about why
it is there, whether someone may have tampered with my
document, if so, who? Is there some other explanation of
why it could be there?
