I'm using Office 2003. In Word, I have certain buttons that take up
valuable space, but aren't removable. They sit on the Outlining
toolbar, and consist of:
Cross-reference...
Hyperlink...
Caption...
I tried 2 ways to remove them. One is Tools->Customize, and drag them
off the toolbar. Unfortunately, they disappear from the toolbar in
the customization mode, and reappear after exiting customization mode.
The 2nd way is to click on the little down-arrow at the right edge of
the toolbar and go to AddRemoveButtons->Outlining. Here, you can
check and uncheck the buttons you want. The 3 rogue buttons above are
checked, but also grayed out. I can't uncheck them.
Why are they grayed out? Why do they disappear from the toolbar only
in customization mode? How does one get rid of those buttons?
Thanks!
