Text area losing focus in Word 2002 (often shifts to toolbar)

Greg Foster

Not encountered before Word 2002: there seem to be several
ways that the text area often loses focus, interrupting my
typing and requiring me to relocate the IP to continue:

(1) Using the arrow keys often shifts the focus to the
toolbar for no reason.
(2) After selecting text, I sometimes have to hit Escape
to get the focus off the toolbar in order to manipulate
the selection (e.g., to delete it).
(3) As mentioned in a previous msg (repeated here just b/c
of thematic relatedness), extending a selection by holding
down the Shift key and pressing PgDn often stops extending
the text after 1-3 keypresses (focus seems to shift away
from text area).

Thanks in advance for any help with these issues.

Thanks for the reply. No, no problems with the Alt key.
Incidentally, I noticed today that another version of this
problem occurs when I am paging down in a document
containing graphics--eventually one of the graphics gets
selected, with the result that PgDn no longer works until
the selection is shifted back to the document itself (by
clicking somewhere in the main text again). As before, any
suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
