Text Box Defaults

Been away from Ppt too long...

I need to randomly insert many text boxes on various slides. It makes sense
to set my new text box format as a default: white fill, black text, 1 pt
black line, etc. I format a box, and check "Default for new objects", but it
doesn't take. Am I missing something?

I also need to set the text to black, but I don't see a way to do that, nor
add a drop shadow to this 'style' either. Any tips on making that happen
would be great.

The manual textboxes don't hold fill and line colors. You'd need to set one
up the way you want and then right-click and choose Set Autoshapes
Default -- and then use the rectangle tool (as opposed to the textbox tool)
to create your textboxes.

When you start typing, the rectangle should turn into a textbox -- at least
what looks like a textbox -- although I don't know if those are still
referred to as autoshapes or textboxes or what in VBA.

As far as the drop shadow, if you're using a textbox/autoshape with a fill
and/or line, the drop shadow will apply to both the shape and the text.
Well, it will apply to both if you have just a line on the shape. If you
have a fill and a line, the drop shadow only applies to the shape and not to
the text.

That works perfectly. Well, at least I need this textbox/autoshape style far
more than I'll need regular old rectangles, and I can easily live with this
new default. ....Does the "Default for new objects" actually do anything?

Yikes, what a goofy setup. But does what I need today. Thanks, Echo.

You mean Format/Font/Default for new objects? Yeah, it will set your default
font (color and size and formatting such as super/subscript, etc.) for
manual textboxes.

Yeah, it's pretty strange.

Welcome.
