Text Box Question

I am using Vista and MS Office 2007. I am constructing a three column
document. I am wanting to insert a text box to place a photo. This usually
works...however when I set text wrap, it does not work...the text does not
wrap. When I set it to tight, the picture disappears (automatically "sent to
back"?). I've restarted the computer thinking it was a memory problem...but I
don't have a clue where to go with this.

It isn't possible to wrap text around a graphic inside a text box. Under the
covers this has something to do with the fact that a text box is itself an
object in the same class as graphics. While you can wrap text around a text
box, that isn't available inside the box.

This behavior is not new to Word 2007.

OK...but I've done it before...I'm using the text box to put the pic in...and then outside the text box I'm wrapping text. If this in fact worn't work, how do I text wrap around a photo?

So you're actually wanting to wrap around the text box with the picture in
it? In that case, you must be sure you have the text box and not the image
selected when you choose the wrapping. But note that the text box is
unnecessary since you can wrap text around the graphic itself; it doesn't
have to be in a text box.

A picture doesn't have to be inside a text box to float and wrap text around
it. Just click in the body text, insert the picture, and set its text
wrapping to Square or Tight, or choose one of the Position settings on the
Picture Tools > Format ribbon.

If you still want to use a text box, make sure the text box is selected --
not the picture inside it -- before you set the text wrapping. That will
wrap the text outside the box. The restriction I was talking about involves
both the picture and the text being inside the text box; that doesn't work.

That's what I thought too, but it doesn't work. I put the jpg into the document, click on the text wrap box and they are all grayed out...won't let me select how to wrap. I'm wondering if I should just reinstall Word???

Have you found a solution to your problem. I have tried everything I can
think of. I have a picture within a text box and I want the text to wrap
around it, it just won't work. I guess it's not possible, but seems like it
should be a very simple task for word to do. In publisher you can create a
text box, type in it, then click outside of it, insert a pic or clip art,
then drag it to where you want it it the text box and the text will
automatically wrap. I need to be able to do this in word.

In Word you cannot wrap text inside a text box around a picture in that text
box. Word is a word processor, not a page layout application like Publisher.

Thanks Suzanne. So to achieve the apperance I need (having text and a
picture within a bordered frame, I would type in the text without a text
frame, and then add the picture. What would I need to do to frame this?

If you're just wanting to put a border around it, you could draw a rectangle
(No Fill, In Front of Text) and apply the desired line style. Or, if the
"frame" is the only thing on the page, you can use a page border. Increase
margins as necessary and set the page border "From text" instead of "From
edge of page."

And of course if Publisher is available to you, you could use that instead.
