Text box settings changing on save/re-open

I'm using Word 2000. In my document, I have two columns
defined and have inserted text boxes containing GIF
images. I format the text box so that text wraps
above/below, position the text box horizontally/vertically
relative to the margins, and lock the anchor. When I save
and then reopen the document, all of these setting have
been lost. The text box has moved to a new position on
the page, the figure is above the text (no wrapping), and
the anchor is no longer locked. What is happening here?

I experimented by correcting the setting on a single text
box, saved, and reopened the document and experienced the
same problem. Why doesn't Word open up the file exactly
as I've saved it? What could the problem be? I would
appreciate any suggestion or help!

Thanks.

I'm not sure if this is related, but I have the same
problem with Word 2002 when a insert a GIF graphic
(without a text box) in a 2-column document where the
graphic encompases both columns.

It occurs when I have this checked... Tools > Options
under the Save tab... Disable features introduced after
Word 97. When I save the document, I get a message
saying "Some of the features in this document aren't
supported by Word 97 - Summary: Pictures and objects with
top and bottom wrapping may shift upward in the document".
When I click OK and the document saves, some of the
graphic move upwards. This is strange since top and bottom
wrapping are actually supported in Word 97, and if I use
the same document in Word 97 I don't have the problem. The
document in question was originally produced with Word 97,
then I made some ammendments (but not to the graphics) in
Word 2002.

I'm wondering if it's the same in Word 2000 except perhaps
you don't get the warning message. Check to see if you
have Word 97 file compatiblity on.
