By default, the text of text boxes makes use of Normal style, which, in
turn, gets it default settings from the document defaults. Try changing the
document defaults: In the Styles pane (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S), click the Manage
Styles button. On the Set Defaults tab, set Line Spacing to "Single" and set
Spacing Before and After to zero. Select "New documents based on this
template" before clicking OK.
If the above doesn't help, modify the Normal style itself. With the
insertion point in a text box, press Ctrl+Shift+S; in the Apply Styles pane,
click Modify. In the Modify Style dialog, click Format and then click
Paragraph. Change the Line Spacing and Spacing Before/After as discussed
earlier. Click OK. Before clicking OK in the Modify Style dialog, select
"New documents based on this template."
These instructions apply to Word 2007 and 2010. If you are using an earlier
version, modifying the Normal style via Format | Styles and Formatting
should do the trick.

Hi all,
All of a sudden my text box will only double space the lines, no matter
what I do I cannot figure out how to get it back to normal of single
spacing the lines.
I didn't do anything different to make it start double spacing.
Can you please help me get it back to just single spacing.
Thank you,
Sylvia
