Text box

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

When typing in the text box or importing older slides with text boxes, the cursor is leaving a small vertical mark after each line that will not go away. I have tried everything I can to delete it and make it go away. It will not delete and makes text look bad. Help please.

Does this occur when you open a new presentation and then try to create a text box and and new text?

Just to be certain, have you tried updating PowerPoint to the latest version via the PowerPoint - Help - Check for Updates menu? The latest version as of now should be 12.2.1. You can check your version by going to the PowerPoint - About PowerPoint menu.

Thanks Jeff!

I have the latest version. It did this to all the things created in the previous version and also does it to new text boxes. I can find no way to get rid of it. At the end of every line it leaves this "trail." Very annoying Funny!

Try both of the following & reply with the results of each;

1- Launch PPT while holding the Shift key, then open one of the files that
has exhibited the problem,

2- Run PPT in a different [preferably new] user account & see if the problem
occurs there.

Also, does the problem persist if you change the font & formatting?

Hello,

I tried the first two and nothing changes. But then I tried your last idea, simply changing the font corrected it. Is there some way to repair the font? It is a favorite.

Thanks much,
Chris

I don't know of any way to "repair" a faulty font, but that may not be the
actual source of the problem. There are a few other options you can try.

Launch the Apple app called Font Book (it's best if no other programs are
running). It provides 2 routines you should run: Resolve Duplicates &
Validate Fonts. If the problem is duplicates that may correct the problem
but if there are any that are damaged they may have to be replaced. You
should be able to simply reinstall bad ones from the same source file.

Do a full shut-down of the Mac & wait a minute or two before powering up in
order to clear font caches, then run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions
before launching any programs.
