text cropped in drawing objects pasted as pictures in WD97

Made a drawing object in Word97 that included text boxes, with page set up as
landscape so it would be easier to "draw". Grouped all obects and copied to
clipboard, then did a "paste special" to paste it as a picture elsewhere in
the document. I wanted it as a picture so I could shrink it to fit a portrait
page and have the text scaled down to fit the boxes. Even when I pasted it
to a landscape page, the text in the boxes on the left of the object was
cropped on the left side. How to get around this? I need all the text.

Also, the paste special made the 9.5" wide drawing object 6" wide. How to
change the default width for paste special as a picture?

Generally I do well with Draw. I make one document for sketches and keep
them as drawing objects. Then I paste them as pictures in my final document
so I can scale their dimensions and reduce their size (KB). If I need to
revise the pictures, it's easy to go back to the sketch document, make the
changes, then paste the revised drawing as a picture in the final document.

Thanks. My OS is Win98SE.

Hi Jimbo -

I don't have access to '97 & can't reproduce the problem in 2003, but can
offer one piece of insight. When you paste any object into Word it will
automatically be downsized as necessary to fit the printable area within the
margins of the page you're pasting to. IOW, the 9.5" wide object pasted to a
portrait page with 'default' 1.25" margins would explain why the picture was
reduced to 6" (8.5 - [2x1.25] = 6).

As to why text was cropped when you pasted to a landscape page, I can't say.
