Text deletes when working in document Word 2002

While working in document wether I am typing, backspacing or just doing
a copy paste in random documents the text will just begin to delete
from where ever the curser is to the end of the document or until I do
ctrl alt del bring up task manager then close it without ending
anything. The previousl action will stop the deletion and unlock the
document. Doing undo will put the document back to its current state.
Would like to know why this is happening and how to stop it. Will
settle for how to stop it.
