Text disapears

Every so often when I open one of my documents from my winXP’s “WORD”, it is complete empty, All my written content is lost. The following prompt appears: “THE COMMAND YOU SELECTED IS NOT AVAILABLE FROM THIS SHORTCUT MENU”. Why is this happen and how do I get the written text back.
