Text disappears when on same page as graphic

When I create an autoshape, the text that was on the page disappears (goes invisible). If I highlight the area I can see it, but the second I click somewhere to edit it disappears again. If I scroll so that the graphic if off the page the text will show again. Anyone else ever have this problem? It is really frustrating working with an invisible body of text.

-my graphics are all set to show in front of text (they are small enough where I know they aren't covering the text themselves)

- this is within a column in a table. Would that effect it?

Thanks,
David

Yes, the Table will affect it. If you want graphics to be "in" a table, you
need to set the graphic to be "Inline with text".

You should also insure that the Table text wrapping style is set to "None".

If either of those are not true, strange effects are possible, because the
table becomes a floating graphics object and so both objects are then
floating independently of each other.

Hope this helps
