text disappears when scrolling through Word document

I'm using Word 2002 on a Windows 2000 Pro system. When I scroll through a
document of several pages, lines of text that should appear at the bottom of
the page jump to the next page, or lines that should be at the top of a page
jump back to the page before, or (and this is the most frequent), lines
disappear completely. I can see the lines if I insert a manual line break, so
I know that they have not been erased. This problem was identified in
Microsoft Article 827488, where it said that it could be fixed by downloading
a "hot fix" to SP3. I have installed SP4 and the problem still occurs:
should I therefore download this "hot patch" to SP3?

Nope. SP4 includes all the fixes in SP3. Have you checked to see that you
have the latest graphics and printer drivers installed?

The basics are:

1. Right-click on My Computer and select MANAGE
2. Select Device Manager tab and then Display Adapter. This will tell you
which graphics card you have ands the version of driver.
3. Use Start, Printers and Fazes and listed will be the printer you have
connected.
4. Go tot he Internet support sites for the manufacturers of the card and
printer and select the appropriate drivers for your equipment and Operating
System.
5. Download the drivers and save them to your drive.
6. Install the drivers.

I downloaded what I could from my printer's manufacturer's site; it appears
that my graphic card (Intel 810) is no longer supported. My computer's four
years old, ancient by today's standards I guess! Now I'll just have to wait
to see if the problem goes away. Thanks for your input.

Go to Intel.com and download the 810 graphics driver direct from them.

I did get as far as that page in my attempt to follow your advice but
(wrongly) assumed that "82810" did not include "810". It's not exactly
obvious, is it? I also was misled by a statement elsewhere on Intel's
website saying that they would no longer provide any future software updates
for 810.

Anyway, this time I clicked on the tiny words "additional downloads" and
found that the next screen shows a driver for the 810 chipset. I shall try
downloading it to see if my problem disappears. So thanks for the friendly
advice.
