Text displays very poorly on Studio Displays

Regardless of typeface I'm setting my Word (Office X on a
Dual G4 Mac with Studio Displays) documents in, the screen
displays the fonts as uneven - but when I print, the text
comes out looking correct. When I say uneven, I meen to the
point that if I leave a space out between words it is hard
to notice.

Today I'm using Palatino.

Any ideas on how to get this to appear correctly on-screen
like it does using any other program (such as AppleWorks 6)?

Please send responses to my email address as I am unlikely
to refer back to this newsgroup anytime soon.

Thank You, and Happy new year!

Here's what worked for me when I had distortion of my fonts in Office X v
10.1.5 with OS 10.3.2 on a G4 with a flat-screen display:

Open System Preferences. Click on Appearance. Then go down to bottom and
choose ³Medium Best for Flat Panel² option for Font Smoothing Style. Choose
Set ³Turn off font smoothing² button for font size __(I filled in 8) and
smaller.

Also play around with your Zoom settings--I *always* have the problem you
describe if I use Zoom at 125%, for instance.
