Text editing

In ppt 2000, whenever I attempt to edit a text slide
(background color black) the first keystroke turns the
entire line - and sometimes the entire text box - a silver
or gray color like a scrim that makes seeing the
characters difficult, even though the editing process is
otherwise unaffected. This is extremely annoying and
distracting. I've re-installed the program, no help.

Go to Format/Slide Color Scheme. What color is the background swatch there?
Try changing it.

Thanks for your help. However, even though I tried
changing the color on the bottom swatch (something and
hyperlink) to black, the problem still remains. Oh, well,
it doesn't disable things, and I'll keep trying various
swatches per your suggestion.

The color swatch you need to change is the one for "background." I'm betting
you have a picture on your background, but the *color* is set to the same
color as the color swatch labeled "text."
