Text flow in columns

Here is a description of what I'm trying to create, the
problem is I just don't know how ... Imagine a document
with every page split into two columns. When typing in the
left column of page one when you reach the bottom the text
flows into the top of the left column of page two instead
of the top of the right column of page one. So forth
throughout the document so that all text typed in the left
columns stays in the left column for the whole document
and the same for the right column I'd like this setup to
be static through the entire document with the length of
the document being able to get extreme long (over a
thousand pages). Also I'd like to do this with the column
button and not tables or text boxes. If tables or text
boxes is the only way is there a way I can create a
template that will remain static for the entire document?

For this you'll need a two-column borderless table. But don't try to do it
with a single-row. Word doesn't much care for long tables at all, but
certainly not for long single-row tables. So you'll need to start a new row
from time to time, and if there are places where you can split the table (to
insert a subhead, for example), this will be helpful, too.
