Works for me OK even modified for the target being on another sheet.
Here's possibilities why it doesn't work for you:
1. Where formulas in all cells are being shown:
Tools > Options
View tab
Remove check from Formulas
OK
It could be that you've accidentally hit the toggle shortcut Ctrl + ~.
2. For an individual or group showing of formulas:
It could be that the cells are formatted as Text. So format with any
number format using the Format > Cells > Number Tab
3. For an individual formula.
It could be a character inserted before the = sign. So Select the
cell, F2, Home, and delete any preceding characters.
4. Finally
No = sign before the formula.
