Text in cell overwrites as entry continues

Something has happened in the last few days to my Excel setup. If I try to enter text into cells, the first few characters are overwritten by later characters. There seems to be time dependence. If I type a long string quickly it all is entered into the cell, but I if pause, what was already entered is overwritten.
This is frustrating as I can't manually modify the cells in any useful way.
If I cut and paste text into a cell, there is no problem.
Help!

First thing is to figure out what changed - did you add any haxies or
other software that would monitor keystrokes? Did you do any Office or
System updates?

Is XL fully updated (12.1.3)?

Does it happen on every workbook/worksheet? Ledger sheets?

What is a "long string" - 20 characters? 300?

How long a pause?

Many thanks for your reply.

Your questions prompted me to do some fossicking and I found that it was an interaction between Excel and a setting in a program called PopChar that caused the issue. Problem solved.

Microsoft and Ergonis are aware of the problem (according to the Ergonis faq) and there is a work-around until the problem is resolved <http://www.ergonis.com/products/popcharx/faq.html>

Many thanks,

Craig
