text jumbles when file reopened

If I create a drawing just the way I want it, close it and reopen it, the
text that was on one line is now on two lines, for example:

1533'

becomes

1533
'

19b, 23-40

becomes

19b, 23-
40

Is there a way to avoid this? I am using Visio 2000 SR1 on Windows 200 pro.
