text length does not match margin settings

S

S Curfman

hi.

last night, i opened a new doc and do not know what is
going on. paper is set at 8.5" x 11", margins are .5"
all around; essentially preferences are set at what i
normally use.

here's the odd part - of the 7.5" allowed by the margins,
the text wraps at 6", leaving an extra gutter of 1.5" o
the right. i can open existing documents and they format
correctly, but any new docs default to this off-kilter
wrapping.

i have reloaded the entire office xp and it made no
difference.

any ideas?
thx.

Hi S Curfman,

Take a look at the paragraph format of your Normal style and see if it has a
right indent.

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps

If you would like to email me a small sample of one of the docs that is
showing this behavior (don't post it here), I'll be happy to take a look at
it.

You'll probably have to give us more details. For example, is the text wider
or narrower than the margins? It's possible the paragraph you're using has
indents (positive or negative). Or you could have "Wrap to window" set for
Normal view. If the text was pasted from an email or the Web, it probably
has line breaks at the ends of the lines; see

Go into one of the documents where the page settings are
set according to your preferences, then save as your
template so when you select New, you have it as one of
your options.

It might have occurred because a document you opened
somehow got saved as your Normal.dot (Normal template)
file.
