text not appearing in closed header

i have a line of text in my header, and have shaded the paragraph so that the entire header is shaded. when my header is open for viewing, the text is visible. when i close the header, the text isn't visible

Hi Merrilee,

That would be normal because when the header is closed, text in the header
is shaded and probably blends in with your shading. If you preview the
document so that you see it as it will be printed, you should see the text
in your header OK.
