Text placeholders

i am trying to make a template that all our personnel can
use by just filling in the blanks with data. How can I
make placeholders on my document that you can type text
into?

I think you want to create a form with fillable fields.
Check out the topics under "forms" in the help system,
especially "Create Forms that Users Complete in Word"
