Text shows as English and Japanese

Gang,
I'm editing a .doc document created by a colleague, using compatibility
mode. I'm editing using Track Changes, with the Track Changes while
Editing option selected, so I see the markups as I make them.

I pasted in some text and then used the format painter to apply the font
format from the rest of the document to the pasted text. In so doing,
the markup balloon says:

Formatted: Font:Arial, 11 pt, (Asian) Japanese

The strange thing is that if I select any text in the document--whether
it is the existing text I used to "activate" the format painter tool, or
the newly formatted, pasted text, and go to Tools>Language, it shows
"English (US)". The only indication of this (Asian) Japanese text is in
the Track Changes balloon.

Is this something to be concerned about (eg, invisible formatting jun
that may cause corruption later on)?

TIA,
Dennis

No, there is nothing to be concerned about there.

Some of the text you have pasted in from somewhere has come from a document
that has been edited in a Japanese copy of Word.

As well as the formatting properties applicable to English, Word has a
second set that contain formatting information that enable Asian languages
to be displayed correctly.

Once one of the properties that belongs in this set is used, anywhere in the
document, that property container is added to the document. It then remains
in the document for the rest of its life.

You can safely ignore it, because unless you are writing in an Asian script,
it will have no effect at all. If you are writing in an Asian script, you
will have the formatting tools to adjust it as needed.

Hope this helps

You're not talking about the same problem.

You can't be: his problem has no effect at all in English or Slovakian.

Cheers
