Text shows as icon

When I copy text from my WORD document and try to paste it in the message
body of OUTLOOK, instead of the text being copied, I get a wierd-looking
pinkish graphic icon. I am able to paste the text after I delete the icon,
and attempt to paste the text again. This happens consistently every time.
Can someone help please? I'm using Windows XP OS with MS Office XP
professional. Thanks.
