Text slow to appear

I have had the constant issue of characters typed or deleted being painfully
slow to appear on screen in Word 2003. There is penty of power, speed and
memory (1.6 gig pentium/ 1GB RAM) This is an intermittent but extreme issue.
Seems ot havppen roughly every 30- 45 seconds for 10-15 seconds. I have
attempted monitoring system performance theough the task manager and see
performance demand spike when this happens, but I can see no process oading
or taking much CPU to correspond- except Word. Whatever typing or
backspacing has beed done comes out slowliy one charecter at a time until the
system releases and then immediately the backlog comes current.

I am running Ad-aware and Spyware Doctor. Has anyone seen this before?
Any help appreciated.

This is usually a symptom that you need to update your graphics driver -
possibly your printer driver, but Graphics driver is most likely.
