Text to Speech functionality would make more sense in Word than Ex

Hi,
I see from the Offie Discussion Group that the way to get Text to Speech for
Word is to create a macro that uses the Excel functionality. My gut tells me
it would make more sense to have this feature available in Wo to start with.
Is there any reason why this isn't built in yet? Is there any plan to enable
this in Word directly?

Thanks,
Phil

Hi Phil,

The Excel team created the Speak-Cells function so that folks partly as a way to proof original vs typed input. It can read the
'after typing' entries back while someone checks the original printed source material to see if they match. It's still in Office
2007 in Excel, but buried fairly well (i.e. no longer in the default ribbon/menus).

Windows Vista provides its own capabilities for dictation and narration (reading of the screen). There aren't any known plans for
the Office team to go back into this area directly in the desktop apps. There may be something that ties in later through the MS
Office Unified Communications products -
http://microsoft.com/office/uc
which has now been broadened beyond just the 'Office' family.

Thanks Bob for your wisdom in this area. When you say that Vista provides the
ability for narration, can be a bit more explicit as the Narrator tools seems
to want to read everything except the document I was using in Word. Any
hints/tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Phil

Bob,
How do you get the computer to read something from a Microsoft Word 2007
version?
