text to speech in Word X

In Word X for the Mac, under the pull down menu - Word - Services
-Speech - start speaking text or stop speaking text, there is an option
for text to speech. However I cannot figure out how to turn it on. I
have highlighted text and tried to select it, but I have had no success.

HELP! I work with students with disabilities and this is a great option.
