text turns to xxxxxxxx

I have a fairly large SS file. When I enter text into a particula
column, whenever the text entry gets above approx 200 chars/spaces. th
text turns to a single row of xxxxxx.

the column is set to arial 9 point, all cells are set to text format
wrap text and this problem persists even when the column is page width


If I copy the text from the data entry line (not the cell) to a ne
cell in another column , this does not happen.

Any ideas?

I bet you meant that the text turns to ###### (not x's).

Try formatting those cells as General and see if that helps.
