I'm not clear on what you did as far as updating... You can't apply 12.2.1
unless you have applied 12.2.0 (SP2), & that can't be applied unless you've
applied 12.1.0 (SP1). You don't mention either of the last 2 updates. What
do you find if you do the Get Info on the .framework file?

when i find the info from microsoftcomponentplugin it says i have 12.2.1

The Microsoft Component Plugin is the true test of an upgrade, but it
doesn't indicate it's a good install.

A framework error normally means one or more components of Office have not
been updated correctly and are now out of synch with other bits.

See these solutions for dealing with framework errors:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/framework.html>

Steps to re-install Office (this is not as drastic as using "Remove Office"
but should work)

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/reinstall_steps.html>

Hope this helps!

In order for Excel to run properly, the Excel.app file must be in the same location as the Office folder. When this is not the case Excel will produce the error you have posted.

To fix this issue you can:
#1 - Run the Excel.app from its default location in Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/
#2 - Copy the Office folder from Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/ to the new location of Excel.app (which is Applications/ in your case)

If you elect to go with #1, you can always create an shortcut to Excel by:
- Right-click on the Excel app
- Select "Make alias"
- Drag the alias to your desired location
