the business contact manager database has been removed from this profile...

I'm getting this error.

"the business contact manager database has been removed from this
profile, because this version of business contact manager does not
support Microsoft Exchange server e-mail accounts. Please use a profile
that doesn not contain an exchange server e-mail account. If you don't
have such a profile, you can create a new one. To manager your
profiles, click start, click control panel....

Off thing is that I installed from the disk that came with the package
of stuff we got when we purchased our Exchange 2003 installation
disks.

Did I get the wrong thing?

Surely BCM will work in conjunction with an Exchange email account.

From http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829748/

"Business Contact Manager is designed for the small business segment that primarily uses Internet service providers (ISP) that are based on Post Office Protocol (POP) and HTTP based e-mail accounts."

However, there is an update at http://www.microsoft.com/office/outlook/contactmanager/prodinfo/faq.mspx:

"Based on feedback from our small business customers, Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager Update now also works in combination with Windows Small Business Server 2003, Exchange Server 2003, and hosted Exchange Server 2003. "

On the contrary, the error message states that there is a problem with
the particular version of BCM I am using. The error would seem to
indicate that there is, in fact, a version of BCM that is exchange
compatible.

Thanks Sue.

I'd downloaded the update, and thought I installed it, but I'm going to
do a reinstall and see if that fixes the problem.

What would be a comparable product, working in conjunction with
Exchange and Outlook, that can track customer interaction in a
Enterprise (rather than small business) environment? I really want to
avoid the nightmare of having to administer something like Goldmine.

I've administered Goldmine before and it is really overkill for my
current organization. I'd also like something more integrated in my
current Outlook / Exchange 2003 infrastructure.

according to Sue, that's exactly the case...

Sue said exactly the opposite. She was quite helpful and pointed me to
the BCM update that I need in order to run BCM with Exchange.

Microsoft CRM 3.0 is your enterprise solution. BCM has a migration path to
CRM 3.0. If you thought Goldmine is overkill, well, CRM will probably be in
the same category. :)

I would suggest trying BCM 2007 first, however, as CRM is a Dynamics series
product. Call me biased, but it is an underrated product that uses a
standard SQL Express 2005 engine so scalability issues should not be a
problem.

The following issues were resolved in BCM 2007 - customization, easier
sharing, mobile client for Windows Mobile 5.0, offline/online mode for
laptops, switched to SQL 2005 from MSDE (based on SQL 2000). SQL Express
2005 removes the limit of 5 concurrent users (or 8, depending how you count)
that was present in MSDE.

Please define enterprise as you see it. Do you need more than 20 users?
