I have new Canon iPixma 1800 colour inkjet printer and have discovered the above colours do not print out correctly in any of my Office documents.

For example: Magenta turns-out dark mauve; Red is brownish and pink is washed out. Orange is not true either.

I have tried to alter the settings in the Colour Production section of the printer but all efforts are to no avail.

I am used to working with PageMaker 6.5 and PhotoShop 6 on the G3 and found that colour production output was closely matched to the screen when I had an EPSON Stylus 670 printer.

I do purchase InDesign or PhotoShop thinking that Office 2008 would suffice. However,it is disappointing to see that the colour output is not good in the Office documents especially for brochures. Perhaps, I'm expecting too much of Office and its capabilities to colour match.

I would appreciate some hints on how I can improve the Colour Matching in WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT for printing out documents on this printer.

Thank you!

You can begin by making sure you are not using anything above 24-bit colour
(RGB) in Word. Sorry: No 48-bit colour yet!

Also: Word does not use a colour profile. It doesn't make any changes to
the colour, so it doesn't compensate at all. The only colour profile
between Word and the printer is your Printer's colour profile.

Hope this helps

Additional to John's points, it could further be that the images were
created using CMYK Colors which aren't translating well based on the RGB
conversion being done by the printer. As John says, Word has no color
conversion capability, but this sort of thing can happen if CMYK images are
pasted into the doc.
