"The data on the Clipboard is damaged."

For years I've pasted some data from an Excel .CSV to an Access form.

Starting the day I installed this weeks patch bundle, I get the following
message from Access on attempting the paste:

"The data on the Clipboard is damaged, so Microsoft Office Access can't
paste it. There may be an error in the Clipboard or there may not be enough
free memory. Try the operation again."

Pasting the data into Notepad, Select All, Copy, Paste into the Access form
works fine.

Is it possible one of this week's patches BROKE something??!?

Any thoughts?

I read this subject line in another forum, but I didn't try to verify anything:

Excel Patch KB958437 Prevents Copying data to Access 2007

Maybe that's the patch you should start with???

I hate it when that happens. All this emphasis on "you have to install these
patches ASAP" presumes they don't BREAK other stuff.

Hopefully they will fix soon. I will have to uninstall that one. A real
operational problem encountered everyday trumps a speculative security
problem that is unlikely to effect me ever.

Thanks! I added validation and a rating to the Connect item. Let's hope MS
takes note and issues a new patch.

Please post back with your results after you uninstall and test the copy|paste.

Accidently found another work around. Copy the data then exit Excel and
when Vista asks if you want to save it say yes. Then you can paste
append into your Access table. At least I have been able too.

Joy because you uninstalled that patch or because you found the work-around (or
both)???

I'm slightly confused.

OK... had this problem too... in access, open the CLIPBOARD from the HOME tab of office 2007... switch to your spreadsheet, copy the data, in the access clipboard, click the file and click paste all... it works really.

I had this exact issue today, and was very pleased to come across this thread.

Can anyone explain what the point of preventing this copy/paste was? Also,
won't Windows Update just reinstall the update next time, or is it smart
enough not to do that?

Thanks
Allan

I don't have any actual knowledge about this patch, but I bet it was not an
intended "feature".

And if use Windows update, can't you tell windows that you don't want this patch
installed.

If you have things set to completely automatic, then (to me) it sounds like a
recurring problem.

I have Ms Office Professional Plus 2007, so I removed "Office 2007 Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (KB958437)" , which was loaded on my machine on Thursday, December 11, 2008. Now my clipboard works again.

I've has this issue for a few days and was glad to find the thread.

I went into control panel, viewed the installed updates and removed the
excel one.

Works fine now.

Originally, I did not find any Ms Office references with dates when I looked in my "Start/Control Panel/Add Or Remove Programs". So, I went to "Start/All Programs/Windows Update" to get on the Ms Office Update site. Once there, I looked under Options and clicked on "Review Your Update History". A list was generated that showed me Product, Update, Status, and Date. I looked for a entry with "Office", "Security Update for Ms Office Excel...", and a date around the time the error occurred. I noted the KB reference number for the update. Then, I went back to my "Start/.../Add Or Remove Programs". Made sure to check the box for "Show Updates". Then, I looked in my list of programs for the Ms Office entry with the KB reference. I clicked on the update in the list and then clicked on the "Remove" button that appeared to the right. When you run down your list, you might find some blank sections of white space (nothing). Be sure to keep moving on past these, as you head your way to the bottom. Or, just drag the bar all the way to the bottom, and work your way backward to the top.
