The effect of renaming a sharer file, on the resource pool

Nicole

I created a sharer file called 'AAA' in MSProject 2007 and assigned resources
to it from a central resource pool. I've since had to change that file name
to 'BBB' however, when I review resource usage in the resource pool, it still
references the sharer file 'AAA' and the hours/resources allocated in it,
even though AAA effectively no longer exists ? and this, in addition to BBB
(which is reflected correctly). How can I remove all reference / links (?)
to 'AAA in my resource pool' ?

Hello Nicole,

Open the Resource pool file read-write and the sharer (AAA) file.
From the pool file choose Tools > Resource Sharing, Share resources.
Select the AAA file and click the Break Link button. Close and save
all files.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply Julie.

The reason the steps you suggest don't work is because the sharer AAA was
renamed, to be BBB. As such, AAA doesn't exist anymore, i.e. I didn't
'File', 'Save As' and create BBB - I simply renamed AAA in Explorer.

Sharer BBB needs its content to be linked to the resource pool, which it is.

My concern is that MSP is still showing AAA as existing when I look at the
resource usage sheet, i.e. it's showing AAA as a project in its own right and
it's showing BBB as a project in its own right when only BBB exists, i.e. if
I ran a directory search for AAA, I wouldn't find it located anywhere.

My resource sheet is showing two projects and thus recording duplicate
requirements for the same resource. I only need BBB so am happy to delete
all reference to AAA. I hope that makes sense ?

Please ignore my previous message Julie. I've come to understand the
instructions you've provided recommend I initiate to break the links from the
resource pool, and not from the sharer file, which is the approach I had
taken. I have now done as you suggested and your recommendation has worked
for me. Thank you very much !
