getting email should be a really simple thing, and i can't understand why it isn't.

with dozens of manhours wasted, and about a hundred "how to" pages from MS, Mactopia and elsewhere. our tech support can't or won't help and microsoft, well, they haven't even fixed our problem with our exchange product license.

give up...

please, please, please. does anyone know how i can get the settings on Entourage and Exchange to just... bloddy... work?

what needs to be done/enabled on the exchange front?

what needs to be done/filled in on the entourage side?

we're hosting exchange ourselves, so we can make any customizations required to get it to work.

and please, assume i'm an idiot and type slowly.

You haven't included your version of Entourage nor your version of
Exchange. Those are important, so if the items below don't work then
please post back with that.

First, test using Safari to connect to your back-end Exchange Server.
The address should look something like:

http://server.domain.com/exchange

This is not the same as a front-end Outlook Web Access (OWA) server,
which you shouldn't be using internally.

If that doesn't work then Entourage won't work. Entourage 2004 relies on
WebDAV and Entourage 2008 relies on a combination of WebDAV and Web
Services. WebDAV is also what OWA uses for browsers to connect.

New Exchange Server 2007 installations will require that you install
Legacy Applications:

"Entourage requires Legacy Applications software for functionality with
Exchange Server 2007"
<http://blog.entourage.mvps.org/2007...egacy_applications_software_for_function.html>

Have a look at these links for setups and optimization.

"Connecting Entourage to an Exchange Server at work"
<http://entourage.mvps.org/exchange/exchangeatwork.html>

"Connecting Entourage to an Exchange Server from Home"
<http://entourage.mvps.org/exchange/exchangeathome.html>

"Optimize Entourage to better work with Exchange"
<http://blog.entourage.mvps.org/2008/03/optimize_entourage_to_better_work_with_exchange.html>

If you're using Exchange Server 2007 then you may need to alter your
server address slightly. Normally, you'd use:

server.domain.com

but for Exchange Server 2007 you may need to use:

server.domain.com/exchange/[email protected]

Ask your Exchange admins if they have enabled some third party
authentication software. Entourage can only connect to servers using
Basic and Forms authentication. If they've implemented something that
requires, for example, RSA SecurID tokens then Entourage won't work.

Again, none of this will work unless you pass the first test, which is
connecting with a web browser.

Hope this helps!

thanks bill.

can "connect" to server.domain.com/exchange - it tells me i need to view this over a secure channel. using <https://> gives me a 404 error.

guess that means i need to change something on the exchange 2007 side?

i'm running entourage 08.

That's leading me to believe that Legacy Applications (including WebDAV)
has not been installed. Check the link I provided you earlier about that
and see if your admin has done this.

Good luck!
