The up dates sp1 to sp3 will not work. The subject line is what all three
tell me when I try to run the up dates. I am not a happy camper right now
after serveral hours of down load time for sp1 and sp2.

You don't mention what version of Office you are updating; I assume you are
updating Office XP? Microsoft has a great knowledge base of technical
support information here: http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1. You
don't mention if you found or tried these articles:

You receive an error message when you apply Office XP Service Pack 1:

"The expected version of the product was not found on your system" error
message when you install Office XP Service Pack 3:

You could try using the full-file version of the SP-3, to see if that helps.

If you have bandwidth issues, you can order the update on CD:

http://www.microsoft.com/office/orkarchive/Oxpsp3cd.htm

Or, if it was pre-installed, contact the company that installed your
software and get support from them for updating it. OEMs (Original
Equipment Manufacturers) are expected to support what they install.
