"The file *.doc is not available" error SOLVED (NOT A NORTON PROBL

I was getting this error recently - and I don't have Norton (as everyone
else's problems were). I thought at first my files were corrupted, but then
I figured out it was occurring on all of my *.doc and *.docx (etc.) files.
So I figured it must have been some sort of update with Windows Defender (I
have Vista Ultimate x64 and Office 07) or an AVG update. I uninstalled AVG
8.0 and... viola! my files open! AVG wasn't even opening at all - in the
Task Manager or Tray - it just wouldn't start. So, I'm on to a different
anti-virus...All I care is that I have my 86 page password-protected journal
back!!

i had pretty much the exact same situation. Uninstalled AVG 8.0 Free (it
wouldn't respond to any commands either -- launching the gui app via shortcut
or task bar icon) and the file loaded up just fine!

Now I get to figure out what anti-virus software to use now...
