"the file might have been damaged or modified from its original format"

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Lately I have been having issues with Excel opening up spreadsheets sent to me via multiple users using Office 2007.

the message that appears upon trying to open a spreadsheet is:

"the file might have been damaged or modified from its original format"

Now I have been successful in opening the same spreadsheet with my Windows XP machine running O2K7 however, all three of my Mac's are unable to:

iMac, Macbook, Macbook Pro all running Office for Mac 2K8.

The same message appears across all 3 machines. What is odd is that even some files that I created on the Mac are now exhibiting the issues.

I have re-installed Office 2K8, even gone as far as taking all my spreadsheets and saving them on my windows machine into 2k3 format, xml, xlsb, and re-creating them - still no joy.

have a copy of 2004 which I am going to test, I am just wondering if anyone else is suddenly having this issue and well any guidance? It's becoming frustrating as even simple worksheets with simple formulas are not opening either. Unfortunately I have had to move all my work to my WinXP system in order to get stuff done.

My Office for Mac is updated to the latest patch, and again this is coming from multiple users sending me spreadsheets - all from 2K7. Opening in either Entourage, Mail, or using Gmail, zipped or not all still exhibit the same problem:

"the file might have been damaged or modified from its original format"

The most likely cause is a bug on the Windows side that was fixed with
by update. Make sure that your Windows people have installed the
required Office updates before they save the file. If they have not
updated their copy of Office, their computers may be saving files that
are defective. You can't fix that on your end.
