The file xxx.doc is not available. Help

When trying to open any of my existing word files created in Office 2003 or
2007, I get the following message - The file xxx.doc is not available. Help
me please...

I think you need to provide more information.
You have mentioned how you have created the files - but not how you
are trying to open them. Also you need to say which OS you are using.

Try opening these files in Word Pad. I know that this would not be
able to help you - but it would ensure that the file really exsits and
is not locked. This it does not open by WordPad - then I guess you have
an Operating System question - that is not specific to Word.
