You may have read of this error:
Error -17897: "Authentication failed because Entourage doesn't support
any of the available authentication methods."
And we know from Microsoft:
"This problem occurs when the Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3)
server or the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server uses NTLM
version 1 authentication. Entourage 2004 for Mac no longer supports
NTLM version 1 authentication"
The rub is that it isn't my SMTP account that is the issue, it's the
T-Mobile hotspot system (and others) that is mapping to this
authentication protocol. My SMPT server is NOT using NTLM version 1
authentication ... but many MANY WiFi spots map ANY SMTP access to this
authentication protocol.
