Well this has us tearing our hair out. The users are not happy one
bit.

It's neither :

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935411
or
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920061

Cleanfreebusy and Cleanreminders switches have been run. No rules
are
set up.

- Delgate creates meeting on behalf
- Attendee accepts
- Delegate changes a detail, either time or adds an attendee
- This message is displayed when trying to Send Update.
- "The item could not be saved because it has been changed by
another person. Do you want to save a copy in your default Calendar
folder? If you click Yes, you need to copy and paste your changes
from
the "copy of" item in your default folder into a new update for this
meeting."

Occasionally, the attendee gets a message when trying to accept
either
the initial message, or the update : "The function cannot be
performed
because the message has been changed."

Thansk in advance for any constructive help!

OK...

This is not just Calendar items.

I open a mail (new or old) and leave it open. I go back to the mail
maybe 15 mins later and add a Follow Up tag using the Red Flag toolbar
icon.

Clicking OK intermittently produces "The function cannot be performed
because the message has been changed" - although the message does
acquire the Follow Up flag.

How can I find out what is "changing" the message?

Nope. Add-ins do, but they've all been disabled in Outlook and in
Registry...

I have this same issue and it's causing a huge problem. I accept changes to
my boss' calendar or make changes then try to send an update and get that
message.

This happens to me occasionally, and I always assume it is true that someone
else changed it (or looked at it, or even simply opened their calendar while
I was editing the request).

It is very annoying, but I simply copy any of the edits, close the request,
open it again and redo the changes quickly and then send before anyone has a
chance to make changes to it.
