i have referred to the online help and it hasnt helped. i dont know what

This is caused by an Add-In. To check which Add-In, set your security level
to Medium. Then you will get a message telling you which file has the
problem and asking whether you want to enable the macros. If it is something
you don't use, track it down and move it to a different folder. It is
probably in the Word Startup folder or the Office Startup folder.

That was probably unnecessary. In addition to setting Macro Security to
Medium, you should check the box for "Trust all installed templates and
add-ins" on the Trusted Sources tab of the Security dialog. If the macro was
in a global template or add-in in Word's Startup folder, this would have
taken care of it. No telling what functionality you have lost by deleting
the add-in.

I found Suzanne's instructions to be helpful, but I had to set Macro Security
to Low. When set to Medium I got a different message (at least it told me
where the Macro was...in Office), but it was just as annoying. Once I
changed Security to Low I no longer get the messages when opening Word.

Setting Macro Security to Low is strongly discouraged. If you have already
told Word to trust installed templates and add-ins and are still getting a
message, then the macro is either in a specific document or in an add-in
outside the area of trust (often in the Office Startup folder). You can
either ditch the add-in or, if given the choice, you can check the box to
trust the publisher.

The Macro Security dialog is accessed via Tools | Macro | Security or Tools
| Options | Security: Macro Security...

I cant do this because my macros tab is white, I cant click on it.
I dont understand it.
I just upgraded to office 03 and now on word, my macro buton and the tools

Couple of ideas:

1. Make sure you have a document open - I don't you can't get into the
Macros screen if you don't
2. It's possible that your Normal.dot is corrupted. You may try
renaming that

You probably have an add-in that is trying to run some code, and you have
your macro security set to High or Very High. Word's built-in Help tells you
how to *disable* macros but is less helpful about enabling them. Here's what
you have to do:

1. Go to Tools | Macro | Security and change the security setting from High
or Very High to Medium. This does not make you any less secure, it just
gives you more choice.

2. On the Trusted Sources tab of the dialog, check the box for "Trust all
installed templates and add-ins."

The results of these two changes will be as follows:

1. You will not get any macro warnings from templates or add-in stored in
your User Templates or Workgroup Templates folder or the Word Startup
folder, because those locations are trusted.

2. You will still get a warning from add-ins in the Office Startup folder,
which is not trusted, but you will be given the option of enabling macros.
Before doing so, determine what add-in is requesting permission. If it is an
add-in you have chosen to use and need, you can enable macros, and there
will usually be a check box allowing you to "Trust all macros from XYZ Corp.
[the publisher of the add-in]." If the add-in is something you don't know
anything about or don't need, you can remove it from the Office Startup
folder.

Most add-ins are useful, and in most cases you have chosen to install them,
but some do need to run some code (macros) in order to do their magic.
