The Mystery of the Blue Tables

One of the computers at work is running Word 2007 with the service pack
installed but has been having a terrible time with table display. To make
matters worse, this is happening on my Executive Director's computer - but
only that computer.

The problem is that the entire field turns blue when in putting text into a
table. This isn't the transparent type of blue that occurs when you
highlight an area - that would be tolerable at least. This is a very opaque
blue that makes it impossible to see the newly entered data. The only way
the blue will disappear is if you click several times in a blank area of the
page.

There's a screenshot here:

I have yet to find anyone else who is experiencing the same problem, and
since Microsoft charges for product support (something a NonProfit can't
quite justify), I'm really hoping someone out there has run across this
before.

It's a known issue. Although you'll find quite a number of good guesses
(including a preliminary one that it was caused by adding too many buttons
to the QAT), it turns out that the problem is caused by adding certain
specific buttons to the QAT. "Different first page" and "Different odd and
even" are known to create the problem, but there may be others; if you
happen to figure out that the issue is caused by a different button in your
case, please report back which one it is.

Another button in the Quick Access Toolbar that will cause the Blue
Highlighting issue is the "Footer Position from Bottom" command. I suspect a
number of the header/footer controls will cause this issue, in addition to
the page numbering options.

Hi Tor,

There is a hotfix related to this issue
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953924?FR=1
that you may want to try and let us know if it helps.

Many thanks to Suzanne. Removing the QAT relating to headers and footers in
my case has resolved the problem - specifically the edit header & footer
buttons in QAT. Thanks so much - I was going crazy as I use tables a great
deal!

For additional info, the colouring (shading) of the table contents appears
to relate to the preference colour chosen in display
properties/appearance/colour scheme.
