The new DeltaSynch protocol for hotmail

Hi,

I am currently using the Entourage to get my Hotmail mail sync to my PC. I just got an email from HOTMAIL team today saying that the old DAV protocol will be disable and the new DeltaSynch protocol will replace it.

It seems that the Entourage is using the DAV protocal to get the hotmail. I would like to know when is your plan to support DeltaSynch in the Entourage?

The hotmail is the major reason for me to use the Entourage.

Thanks,
Wenshih

Ditto Wenshih's question. How will DeltaSynch work for users of Entourage with msn.com email addresses?

From what I've read, Entourage does not use WebDAV to connect to
Hotmail. The WebDAV service is used by Outlook Express. POP access
should still be available.

I got an email from the hotmail communication team saying that I am using WebDav to connect to the hotmail services. It seems that the hotmail system platform identify the Entourage as the outlook express. So I think the Entourage is using the WebDav, not the DeltaSynch.

I don't want to wait until June to find out if Entourage supports DeltaSynch or not. Can any one from Entourage team confirm that which protocol Entourage supports? WebDav or DeltaSynch? And the plan to support DeltaSynch if not yet supported?

Thanks
Wenshih

Have you ever used Outlook express? Seems the message was sent to anyone
that used OE. Access for Entourage should continue for now. Stay tuned for
any updates.

I used to use outlook express in PC, but I had converted to Window Live mail in the PC before using MAC. After using MAC, I used the Entourage to get my hotmail. Thus, even the hotmail system should record my account using Window Live mail before the Entourage. I haven't enabled the Window Live mail after using MAC.

This is the reason I don't understand I still got this warning email from Hotmail, unless the Entourage is using Webdav install of Deltasynch.

"Mac" stands for "Macintosh", "MAC" is an acronym for "Media Access
Control."

I'm confused. Is your problem you can't get your Hotmail or that you keep
getting the warning message?

Thank you for letting know the different between Mac and MAC.

As I asked in my first post, I would like to know if Entourage support Deltasynch or not. If not, when will the Entourage supports it.

Thanks,
Wenshih

We don't have any info yet. Since they are both MSFT products it's a safe
bet that Entourage will support it.

Be sure to subscribe to the Entourage Help Blog because any news will show
up there first. <http://blog.entourage.mvps.org/>

I'm not sure I agree on the safety of the bet. Office 2008 no longer
supports VBA/VBScript, even though Office 2007 does. I hope they provide
support for both DeltaSynch and VBScript in a future release (and, yes, I
have sent feedback on VBScript).

I understand the noise on removing VBA script is huge. I urge everyone that
wants to see it back to send feedback.

Thanks, Diane. I too urge everyone to send feedback.

I believe that one of the biggest selling points of Office for Mac was its
high level of compatibility with Office for Windows. Files created in one
environment were supposed to look and act the same way when opened in the
other. Without VBA compatibility, that no longer happens for many files. If
I don't need compatibility, there are other (less expensive) apps that can
provide sufficiently similar capabilities.

IMHO, someone at MS really dropped the ball in overlooking this issue.
