The Office Update Catalog cannot be displayed

After I updated windows xp with SP-2, my update-scanner for Office 2003
stopped working and suggested to try again.
What can be the problem...????? Hopefully some ajustment or some missing
data in the registry...???
I have tried to disable my virusprogram (Bullguard) - but no changes.
